2019 Social Content Trend Report

With billions of active users on social media, 2019 has been an exciting year for content creators and brands, to say the least. As ever-changing as social media is, apps like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest are constantly evolving to meet users needs. With so many changes and content buzzing around our endless feeds, it is important to be strategic in order to stand out and deliver great content for your audience.

As 2019 comes to a close, I wanted to recap on the top social media content trends that brands took advantage of and totally rocked this year, below!

Trend 1: Sharing Personal Experiences

This year several brands started putting faces to names and showed up more authentically in their work by sharing employee stories, personal peeks into their day-to-day and shedding light on real-life vulnerable moments. Through sharing more personal content, I think it’s safe to say that your audience loves showing up for you in a real way, too.

Trend 2: Storytelling

Stemming from the last trend mentioned, storytelling has definitely been a trend that many content creators and brands have taken full advantage of. Showing the backbones of their business and telling relatable stories through social content creates a connection like no other. Quick tip: Instagram Stories are a great way to begin implementing a bit of real-life storytelling in your own social strategy!

Trend 3: Building Online Communities

A unique advantage of social media is having the opportunity to interact with like-minded individuals who share similar interests. We’re able to connect like never before and it truly feels like there is space for everyone. In 2019 we saw amazing online communities like Girlboss, Freelancing Females and more take off thanks to the power of social media.

Trend 4: Stylized Graphics

For quite awhile, social media content primarily relied on photography, but as of recent, there has been more stylized graphic content on brand pages which can feel so fun, refreshing, and exceptionally eye catching. As a designer, this is a trend that I love to see taking root across brands’ social feeds!

Trend 5: Personal Brand Photography

Circling back to the trend of adding more personal touches to branded content creation, I’ve noticed that a lot of brands have started using more personal photos from them busy at work to clips into their home life.

I’m curious to know: as we change into the new year, what social content trends do you think brands will take into action in 2020? Will there be new social media features? What’s next? Let me know in the comments below!
