How I’ve Used Quizzes to Grow My Email List (A Lot!)
Compared to growing an audience on social media, email marketing can seem daunting. For starters, there are so many steps: finding an email provider that you like, building out your subscriber lists, designing an email template and coming up with a solid targeting strategy.
From there, the real work begins: winning over subscribers to grow your email list!
If you haven’t given thought to it before, I want to challenge you to think about the following:
• If Facebook and Instagram shut down today, how would you get in touch with your audience?
• Where else in the digital space can you reach your audience where there are no other distractions like Instagram posts or sponsored content?
• Where else on the internet do others deliberately opt-in to receive specialized communications from you?
If you have an email account with a provider like Mailchimp or ConvertKit, but haven’t honed in on a growth strategy just yet, I want to talk about one thing: freebies. Because let’s face it – we’re humans that like things, and free things? Sign us up.
One value-add freebie that I’ve experimented with lately that I’m loving are quizzes. Not only are quizzes fun to complete (I can’t be the only one addicted to Buzzfeed’s quizzes…), but when they’re crafted around your business they can help serve your audience in a major way.
Psst! If you haven't taken my quiz to determine your brand aesthetic, you can check that out HERE.
I stumbled upon Interact quizzes, and let me tell you – these quizzes have been a game changer for my email list! I’m talking more sign-ups in one day than I received in the entire month prior, which in turn generated more visits to my services page and more exciting potential client inquiries. -happy dance-
Interact makes it easy to build quizzes that will not only engage and entertain your audience, but will also give back to your audience by serving them with a relevant quiz result. You may have caught the “What’s Your Brand Aesthetic?” quiz on my homepage, which is exactly what I’m talking about.
So, how does Interact work and why might it be the perfect fit for your website for lead generation? Here are my top three reasons:
1. Interact connects to your email service so easily
Interact makes it easy to capture leads through your quizzes by connecting your email service to the platform. In my case, connecting Mailchimp took all of about...3 minutes! When connecting your email service, I recommend creating an entirely new email list to build upon, so that a new quiz-taker audience segment is built for you. From there, all quiz takers must enter their email address to receive their quiz result, which will instantly be added to your newly created email list.
2. Designing quizzes is fun and creative
If you know me, you know that staying on-brand is important. Interact doesn’t miss a beat, as you can personalize your quizzes with branded header images, logos and fonts that fit your style. You can even include photos for each quiz question. Hello, photographers! How great would it be to put together a quiz where your potential clients can take a test to determine their ideal photography style by clicking through your photos that appeal to them most? Not only would you capture a lead, but you’ll also have a better idea of what they’re looking for before you connect. Pure magic.
3. You can measure results in real time
Ever since I started working in social media, I’ve been an absolute fanatic for numbers and analytics. Impressions, reach and conversions give me all the feels - just saying! Thankfully, Interact has a reporting dashboard for each quiz that you create and is updated in real time so that you can see how many people have viewed your quiz, taken your quiz and completed your quiz to the point of becoming a new email subscriber. I can’t tell you how stunned I was when I checked my reporting dashboard 30 minutes after setting my brand aesthetic quiz live and saw that I already had 10 new subscribers with a high conversion rate for quiz takers. The more you know!
Ready to invest in your leads and serve them with valuable content along the way? I thought so! You can give Interact a go HERE and see how you like it. Something tells me that you’ll be surprised by how quickly your email list grows and by how much great feedback you’ll get about how fun your quizzes are.
