After a whirlwind road trip vacation up the West Coast two weeks ago, I'm finally back into the swing of things! If you were following the #TWGvacation hashtag on Instagram, I'm sure you know that I was in San Francisco, Napa, the Redwood Forest, Portland, Seattle and The Gorge Amphitheater over the course of the week. If you missed it, no worries! See below for a quick recap of all of the beautiful things that I saw and experienced while out of the office.
First stop, San Francisco! It was our first time trying out Airbnb, but our amazing Mission District bungalow didn't disappoint. It didn't hurt that our host, Michael, was amazing and gave us great tips for checking out the local haunts rather than the tourist traps in city! We spend the day biking around the city and stopping at the Golden Gate Bridge for a few pictures. That night, we went to Hogs & Rocks for unique, crafty cocktails – I highly recommend.
Our next day was spent in the heart of Napa Valley with friends, where we sampled a ton of great wine from some of the best wineries in the area. My favorite by far was Lava Vine, a small, quirky winery that had live music and even let us bring our own cheese and crackers to eat outside! Next we ventured to the popular Oxbow Public Market, which played host to several food and beverage vendors. I brought home a great bottle of artisan jalapeño olive oil for my mom, which I know she will love.
When in Portland, enjoy local beer! Needless to say Portland was by far my favorite stop on our trip, and was the only city that we got to spend a full two days in. I honestly see myself living there in the future one day, and love the quaint feel of the city. We biked around Portland and also took advantage of a really fun Brewcycle tour! We also ate at one of the most amazing, authentic Thai restaurants I've ever been to – Pok Pok. Leaving Portland was bittersweet, but I know that I'll definitely be back sooner than later.
Next up, Seattle! Of course, I had to take a selfie in front of the flagship Starbucks located in Pike Place Market – sorry. While we were roaming around I also had to attempt to find the boathouse that Tom Hanks lived in in "Sleepless in Seattle," but wasn't able to see it due to a privacy wall put up around the bay. Darn!
Did I mention that the flowers in Pike Place Market were absolutely amazing? I wish I had brought some home with me! Peonies are hard to find in Denver, and these guys were selling them for $2 a stem. Amazing!
Until next year, summer vacation. What adventures have you been on lately that you'd like to share? Leave your thoughts in a comment below or tweet us at @HeyWorkingGirl!
