Working Pretty: Spring Makeup Essentials
By Sarah Jomaa It’s finally spring, Working Girls! Unfortunately, the weather where you live might not be cooperating enough for you to pull out your favorite skirt or pair of sandals just yet. But don’t be discouraged because you can embrace the springtime by adding some refreshing new products to your daily makeup routine. Here are my top spring makeup must-haves:
Laura Mercier Foundation Primer in Radiance Bronze - While the winter calls for a more matte-finish look, springtime is all about dewiness and a bronze glow. But instead of buying a new foundation and trying to find that perfect in-between season color (because let’s face it, I’m still just as pale as I was in December) my solution is Laura Mercier’s foundation primer in Radiance Bronze. Most primers are clear or flesh-toned, but this sheer product adds a bit of warmth and gives you a sun-kissed look that’s perfect this time of year. I prefer to mix this primer with my matte foundation to give my skin a fresher look. And since it’s a primer, it’ll ensure that your makeup lasts all-day! (Nordstrom, $33)
-Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheeks in Fresh Melon: There’s nothing I love more than a two-in-one makeup product. Perfect for when you’re doing 5-minute makeup, this cream-based color gives your lips and cheeks that perfect flush of color that everyone wants in spring. It also works as a stain, which is perfect for us Working Girls, because we don’t have to worry about the color fading or having to reapply throughout the day. This product comes in eleven different shades, but for the springtime, Fresh Melon is the perfect peachy-pink that works on any skintones! (Nordstrom, $26)
-Essie Nail Polish in Marshmallow: Now I know the typical spring nail color is usually some pastel shade, but I’m loving the look of an off-white nail for spring, especially for an office setting. A spin on the nude nail trend of last year, an off-white nail is the perfect go to color because it will match any outfit. Most truly white nail polishes have streaky consistencies and can tend to show rubbed off dyes from your clothes, so an off-white color is a perfect way to achieve the classy look of a white polish without the fussiness. My favorites are Essie Marshmallow (Ulta, $8.50) and Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Sheer Ecstasy (CVS, $5.99). If you’re totally turned off by the idea of off-white nails and need some color, try Essie Find Me An Oasis (Ulta, $8.50), which will give the same effect, but has a very pale blue undertone.
-Benefit Gimme Brow: Even though bold brows tend to be more of a fall and winter trend, I still love the look of a nicely groomed brow for spring! Good brows can really make a difference and make you look put together, so that’s why I love Benefit’s Gimme Brow. This magic tinted brow-volumizing gel has fibers that adhere to your hairs and skin, creating the perfect brow in seconds! You can build up the product as much as you want to achieve your desired look, and it still looks natural. Added bonus: it’s water resistant, which perfect as the weather gets warmer. Such a great product for us Working Girls in a rush and guaranteed to last from morning to night! (Sephora, $22)
-Golden Cream Eye Shadow: Going along with the glow of the primer I mentioned, gilded lids are my must-have for the spring! And since most of us will have our makeup on for 10+ hours on any given workday, I’ve picked my two favorite gold cream shadows that will last all day. MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Indianwood (MAC, $20) is a deep metallic gold cream shadow that looks great on its own or with shadows layered on top. For a gold cream shadow with a more yellow undertone, try the Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo in Bold Gold (Ulta, $6.99). Both of these products are great for everyday wear and can be easily taken from a daytime to nighttime look. These products will definitely make your eyes pop!
